iRobot Wins Additional Bomb Disarm Robot Funds

irobot logoIRobot Corp. has won a $28, 776, 935 U.S. Navy contract modification to acquire production systems, repair parts and spare kits for a robotics system used to detect and dispose of explosive devices.

The company will also manage configurations and provide engineering services to the Navy for the Man Transportable Robotic System, the Defense Department said Friday.

Explosive ordnance disposal technicians use the MTRS systems to remotely search for explosives and then either render them safe or disarm them, according to the Pentagon.

Work will be occur in Bedford, Mass. through April 2014.

Contract funds are covered by the Army and Navy operations and maintenance funds for fiscal year 2013.
