Northrop Wins $47M Contract to Provide Air Force Comm Payloads

Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE: NOC) has received a $47.2 million contract to provide communications payloads for two of the U.S. Air Force‘s Global Hawk aircraft, the company announced Monday.

Northrop will integrate Battlefield Airborne Communications Node payloads to provide the aircraft with situational awareness capabilities. The aircraft will be designated as USAF EQ-4B unmanned systems following installation of BACN payloads.

BACN uses computers and radio systems to provide voice communications and battlespace information to warfighters and commanders.

Northrop is the prime contractor for developing, fielding and maintaining the BACN and the Global Hawk aircraft. The company received the first BACN contract in April 2005.
