Harris Corp. has received a five-year $54.9 million contract to help improve the Veterans Affairs Department‘s surgical experience, reduce surgery wait times and increase patient throughput.

Harris said it will provide support at the patient, clinical and administrative levels.

The company will integrate a commercial off-the-shelf surgical workflow management solution in 21 Veterans-integrated service networks and all 130 Veterans Affairs hospitals that perform surgery.

These systems support 400, 000 cases and approximately 6, 000 surgeons each year.

“Refreshing the surgical system infrastructure for VA staff and Veterans is one of the VA’s top priorities, ” said Jim Traficant, president of Harris’ healthcare solutions. “To expedite this transformation and ensure the best possible treatment for our Veterans, the VA has called on Harris to integrate an industry-leading solution that will enhance the surgical experience across the entire VA enterprise.”
