Army Invests $245M in Armored Vehicle Protection Kits

Oshkosh Corporation‘s defense division (NYSE: OSK) will provide the U.S. military with more than 5, 100 MRAP all-terrain vehicle protection kits to fill an order from the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command. The kits help address evolving threats in overseas theaters, such as IEDs.

Oshkosh will provide tooling and labor to install the kits and will receive more than $245 million for the services and deliveries. Deliveries are expected to be completed by July 2012.

The M-ATVs are equipped with TAK-4 independent suspension systems to provide durable mobility while maintaining full payload capacity of 4, 000 pounds and 70 percent off-road profile capacity.

“The M-ATVs are specifically designed to offer troops optimal protection and mobility on the battlefield, ” said Ken Juergens, vice president and general manager of joint programs for Oshkosh Defense. “The advanced Oshkosh design easily accommodates the underbody protection kits, offering added protection without sacrificing payload.”
