Sikorsky Selling ‘Most Technologically Advanced’ Black Hawk Helicopter to Sweden

Mick Maurer, Sikorsky Military Systems

Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., a United Technologies company (NYSE: UTX), announced the U.S. government has given the OK to sell 15 of the company’s Black Hawk helicopters to the Swedish armed forces.

The transaction, which will take place under the U.S. government’s foreign military sales program, would introduce the latest and most technologically advanced Black Hawk model into Europe, Sikorsky said.

“We’re honored to support the Swedish armed forces, and we congratulate them for being the first European Union nation to choose this highly evolved UH-60M aircraft, which is part of  a lineage of aircraft that have proven themselves countless times under the most extreme conditions all over the world, ” said Mick Maurer, president of Sikorsky Military Systems.

Sweden, a member of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, is slated to receive the first six aircraft this year, with the remainder being delivered by 2012, under what the company calls an “accelerated production schedule.”
