Harris Corp. Awarded $59.8M Navy Contract for Rugged Tactical Key Loader

The Rochester, N.Y.-based tactical communications arm of Harris Corp. (NYSE: HRS) was awarded a $59.8 million Navy contract to produce the Tactical Key Loader KIK-11, a ruggedized key-management device, according to the Defense Department.

The government plans to acquire 50 Harris TKL units for initial testing, with plans for a maximum of 17, 500 such units over a five-year period.

The TKL device supports the receipt, storage and issue/fill of electronic keys to DoD and other government agency tactical radios.

The $59, 789, 249 firm-fixed-price contract was secured after a sole-source requirement was first announced via presolicitation notice on the FedBizOpps website in June 2010. DoD reports Harris was the only qualified source that indicated interest in the contract.

The Space and Naval Warfare System Command, known as SPAWAR and based in San Diego, Calif., is the contracting activity.
