SAIC Launches Effort to Support Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education

SAIC announced today the launch of an enterprise-wide program to inspire k-12 children to education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). To work towards this nationwide effort, SAIC has formed partnerships with FIRST(R) (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)  and Project Lead The Way (PLTW) who each received a $600, 000 sponsorship and $400, 000 sponsorship respectively.

Under the program, SAIC will also encourage increased volunteerism among its employees in ongoing STEM programs.

Walt Havenstein, SAIC chief executive officer and FIRST board member, said “The number of students entering STEM disciplines is too low to meet future U.S. needs. Industry can play a critical role in helping address this shortfall. Not only does SAIC rely on a STEM-educated workforce, our customers and our nation do, as well. It is what drives our economy.”
