Army Seeking New E-Mail System

The US Army is currently seeking proposals for a contract to develop and maintain a new email system for the Department of the Army. Lt. General Jeffrey Sorenson announced at a meeting of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association that the Army is looking to award a contract for the pilot version in the second quarter of 2010.

The pilot system will be trialed with 150, 000 accounts. It will be a managed services contract in which the contractor will administer the system, removing the Army from responsibility for running the software. If successful, the system could be implemented across the entire Department of Defense, serving over 1.8 million employees, both military and civilian.
