General Atomics Plans Training Academy for Drone Pilots in 2016

General AtomicsTYSONS CORNER, VA June 22, 2015 — Executive Mosaic — ExecutiveBiz reported Friday on General Atomics’ plans to establish a training academy for drone operators from U.S. allied forces in January 2016 to help address pilot shortage and the growing popularity of unmanned aerial vehicles.

Military.com said Thursday that many operators are opting to exit the profession because of long hours and despite incentives.

“There’s increasing demand for these aircraft and therefore there’s increasing demand for training, and so we are starting a training academy in January of 2016 to train pilots, ” Christopher Ames, director of international strategic development at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, was quoted as saying at last week’s Paris Air Show.
