Whiting-Turner Wins Potential $161M Contract to Rebuild Hurricane-Damaged USMC Base

Whiting-Turner Contracting has won a potential five-year, $161.2M contract covering five projects to replace hurricane-damaged facilities at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in North Carolina.

The company will build a 23K-square-foot security building and a 15K-square-foot headquarters squadron facility under the first project of the Hurricane Florence recovery package, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.

These facilities will include space for operations personnel, command staff, accident and criminal investigations, office supply, weapons storage, fitness activities and other needed utilities.

DoD noted the second project will focus on standing up a 36K-square-foot vehicle maintenance shop that will include rooms for tools, battery storage and administrative work, while the third project will involve building a 32K-square-foot primary fire station and a smaller, separate satellite fire station.

The last two projects provide for a new range operations center with various maintenance shops and a weapons-impact scoring system and an auditorium facility for training and educational purposes.

Naval Facilities Engineering Command received 11 proposals for the firm-fixed-price construction contract and obligated $149.1M at the time of award from fiscal 2019 military construction and USMC funds.

DoD expects work to conclude by August 2025.
