The State Department has approved Nigeria’s request to procure 12 A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft and weapons under a potential $593 million foreign military sales deal.
Nigeria’s request also covers training, spare parts, aviation and ground support equipment, hangar, facilities and other required infrastructure, the Defense Security Cooperation Agencysaid Thursday.
Sierra Nevada will serve as prime contractor in the proposed transaction that seeks to also support Nigeria’s efforts to fight terrorist groups and human trafficking.
The agreement will require the deployment of U.S. government or contractor representatives to Nigeria to facilitate training and provide logistics support.
DSCA notified Congress of the possible sale on Wednesday.
