State Dept OKs Potential $1.4B Lockheed Transport, Tanker Aircraft Sale to Germany

The State Department has approved Germany™s request to procure three Lockheed Martin-built (NYSE: LMT) C-130J-30 military transport aircraft and three KC-130J tanker planes from the U.S. government under a potential $1.4 billion foreign military sales agreement.

Lockheed will serve as the prime contractor in the proposed deal that seeks to build up the German air force™s air refueling, air drop and airlift capabilities in order to support interoperability with the U.S. Air Force, France other NATO allies, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday.

The proposed transaction includes Rolls Royce AE 2100D turboprop engines, Link-16 MIDS terminals, AN/ALE 47 electronic countermeasure dispensers, AN/AAR-47A(V)2 missile warning systems, AN/ALR-56M radar warning receivers, MX-20 electro-optical/infrared imaging systems, AN/APX-114/119 identification friend-or-foe mode 5 and night vision devices.

The European country also requested to buy navigation and cryptographic equipment, joint mission planning system, test equipment, technical support, personnel training, engineering assistance, program and logical support services.

The potential sale may require the deployment of U.S. contractor personnel to Germany to provide maintenance support and preliminary launch recovery services.
