The State Department has approved Kuwait™s request to buy gap-filler radars and related support from the U.S. government under a potential $194 million foreign military sales agreement.
Kuwait asked to procure six gap-filler or short-range radars and a long-range radar as well as services to support updates to the AN/FPS 117 (V)3 long-range radar, identification friend or foe systems and airfield radome and communications platforms, the Defense Security Cooperation Agencysaid Thursday.
DSCA said Kuwait will use the radar field systems and related services to support national sovereignty protection efforts, build up security measures and perform situational awareness to help in the detection of rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft.
The FMS transaction also includes spares, training, support equipment, installation, site surveys, site acceptance testing, construction, and logistics support.
DCSA said it notified Congress of the potential sale Thursday.
