The State Department has cleared Japan’s request to procure 56 AIM-120C-7 advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles as well as associated equipment and support services under a potential $113 million foreign military sales agreement.
Raytheon‘s (NYSE: RTN) missile systems business will serve as prime contractor of the proposed sale, which also covers containers; support equipment; spare and repair parts; U.S. government and contractor engineering; and other aspects of logistics and program support, the Defense Security Cooperation Agencysaid Wednesday.
DSCA added that the FMS deal will support U.S. foreign policy and national security by addressing a partner nation’s security and defense needs.
The sale will aid the Japanese air force’s homeland security efforts and help protect U.S. personnel stationed in Japan, DSCA noted.
The agency notified Congress of the possible sale on Wednesday.
