The State Department has approved Iraq’s request to procure pilot and maintenance training, base support and contractor logistical support for C-172, C-208 and T-6 trainer aircraft under a potential $1.06 billion foreign military sales agreement.
Iraq requested contractor aircraft modification services, repair and spare parts, publications, aircraft ferry, miscellaneous parts, training base operation and base life support, security, construction and other elements of program support, the Defense Security Cooperation Agencysaid Wednesday.
Oklahoma-based Spartan College will serve as the principal contractor in the proposed sale.
The FMS agreement will require the deployment of approximately four U.S. government representatives and up to 55 contractor representatives to Iraq.
DSCA said the potential sale serves to support Iraq’s capacity to train pilots and maintenance technicians in-country as well as reduce overseas training requirements and costs.
The agency added it notified Congress of the proposed FMS deal on Tuesday.
