State Department OKs Potential $950M Sikorsky Helicopter Sale to Spain

The State Department has cleared a potential $950 million foreign military sale through which Spain intends to purchase MH-60R multi-mission helicopters made by Lockheed Martin‘s (NYSE: LMT) Sikorsky subsidiary.

Spain wants to purchase eight Seahawk helicopters, 20 T-700-GE-401C engines, two Hellfire II captive air training missiles, four airborne low-frequency sonars as well as other complementary equipment and aircraft support services, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday.

In addition, the potential transaction would provide for MJ20 and M514 cartridge actuated devices, AN/SSQ-36B sonobuoys and AN/ALQ-210 electronic support measures systems. It would also cover engineering, technical, logistics and other support services.

DSCA expects the sale to help Spain execute anti-submarine and anti-surface missions, as well as non-offense activities such as search and rescue, communications relay and vertical replenishment.

Lockheed, as the program’s prime contractor, would send two representatives to Spain if the sale pushes through.
