The State Department has cleared Taiwan’s request to buy munitions, related equipment and services for F-16 fighter jets from the U.S. government through a potential $619 million foreign military sales agreement.
Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) and Raytheon Technologies’ (NYSE: RTN) missiles and defense business will serve as principal contractors in the FMS deal, which includes AGM-88B High-Speed Anti-Radiation Missiles, HARM training missiles, AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles, AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM guidance sections and LAU-129 multipurpose launchers, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Wednesday.
Taiwan will use the capabilities to support the modernization of its armed forces, defend its airspace and regional security and facilitate interoperability with the U.S.
The vendors will also supply HARM missile containers, AIM-120 control sections and containers, AIM-120C captive air training missiles, spare parts, integration and test support and equipment, classified software, consumables and accessories.
Congress has been notified of the arms package, which also includes maintenance support, technical documentation, studies and surveys, engineering, logistics and program support services.
