State Department Clears Taiwan’s $500M F-16 Sensor FMS Request

The State Department has cleared a potential $500 million foreign military sale to Taiwan of F-16 infrared search and track systems, produced by Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) and related equipment through a government-to-government transaction.

Taiwan’s economic and cultural representative office asked to procure IRST systems, integration and test equipment, aircraft and munitions support, spare parts, consumables and accessories, technical documentation and publications and logistics support services, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Wednesday.

DSCA notified Congress of the possible sale, which will not require the assignment of additional contractor and government representatives to the foreign country.

Implementing the FMS deal will support Taiwan’s airspace defense, regional security and interoperability efforts.

Lockheed’s updated IRST technology works to help aircrew detect and track airborne threats.
