SpaceX has won a potential two-year, $96.5 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to help the service branch send a GPS III satellite into orbit.
The Defense Departmentsaid Tuesday that SpaceX will conduct satellite launch vehicle production, launch operations, mission integration, mission and spaceflight worthiness efforts under the firm-fixed-price contract.
DoD noted two offers were submitted to the Space and Missile Systems Center for the contract and the full obligated amount at the time of award is from the Air Force’s fiscal 2016 space procurement funds.
The company will perform work in California, Florida and Texas through April 30, 2019.
SpaceX also secured a two-year, $82.7 million contract from the Air Force in April 2016 to develop a rocket and provide launch support services for a similar satellite.
