SpaceX has won a potential two-year, $290.6 million contract to provide launch and mission support services for a U.S. Air ForceGPS III satellite.
The company will produce a launch vehicle and help the service branch conduct mission integration, launch operations, spaceflight worthiness and other mission-related activities, the Defense Departmentsaid Wednesday.
USAF received two offers for the firm-fixed-price contract via a competitive acquisition and may exercise options for two more GPS III launch mission services.
The service branch will obligate $96.9 million at the time of award from its fiscal 2017 and fiscal 2018 space procurement funds.
The award is part of USAF’s Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle program and marks the fourth competition under its Phase 1A procurement strategy.
Contract work will occur in California and Texas through March 2020.
