The Space Development Agency has begun soliciting industry proposals for the development of approximately 54 prototype satellites to enable the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture’s Tranche 2 Tracking Layer.
SDA will procure infrared sensor-equipped space vehicles using other transaction authority and send the vehicles to six orbital planes as part of its initiative to provide the U.S. military a global tactical network in low-Earth orbit, according to a notice posted Tuesday on SAM.gov.
The Tracking Layer is envisioned to comprise over 100 LEO satellites orbiting in multiple planes and support missile defense operations, such as tracking hypersonic threats.
Interested parties have until Oct. 5 to submit proposals for the T2TL prototyping effort.
The agency could order services for additional satellite and sensor payload prototypes under the other transaction model to help facilitate the development of requirements and design of the planned constellation.
