SRS Critical Infrastructure Security has won a potential 10-year, $1 billion contract from the Department of Energy for paramilitary security work at the Savannah River Site in South Carolina, Aiken Standard reported Saturday.
The report said Virginia-based SCIS won the contract against two bidders including Centerra, which has been the program’s incumbent contractor for over three decades.
SCIS is a joint venture between System Studies and Simulation, Spectra Tech, K2 Solutions and Securitas CIS.
DOE chose the winning contractor to help the department protect site personnel, nuclear systems and sensitive assets using a “best value” sourcing method.
The existing contract with Centerra is scheduled to expire June 7 and SCIS could take over work within an estimated transition period of 60 days, the report noted.-
