Steve Schmalz, field chief technology officer of public sector at Dell Technologies™ (NYSE: DVMT) RSA subsidiary, has said government agencies should update their security platforms as they modernize their information technology infrastructure.
œThe key is making sure to incorporate security from the start because changing the infrastructure will require agencies to change the processes and tools they™re using to monitor and protect it, Schmalz wrote.
He said agencies should field an identity and access management platform designed to build up productivity by providing users seamless access needed to carry out their tasks.
He noted that government organizations should provide data analysts with access to actionable and usable information through the use of analysis and data aggregation tools that leverage artificial intelligence, machine learning and behavioral analytics.
Agencies should support access control with continuous monitoring, implement security controls and gain visibility into their cloud-based and on-premises environments.
He also cited how the Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation initiative of the Department of Homeland Security helps agencies adopt an intelligence-driven security approach and how the Modernizing Government Technology Act offers them an opportunity to reassess and upgrade their IT systems.
