Ann Stefanek, spokeswoman for the U.S. Air Force, has said that L3 Technologies (NYSE: LLL) has selected the Gulfstream Aerospace-built Gulfstream 550 airborne early warning aircraft to replace the military branch’s current electronic attack platform, DoD Buzz reported Thursday.
The Air Force contracted L3 to move electronic warfare technologies currently carried by EC-130H Compass Call planes to a new platform of the company’s choice.
Stefanek told DoD Buzz the Air Force designated its future jamming plane as EC-X.
Lt. Gen. Arnold Bunch, military deputy of the Air Force’s acquisition office, told Congress in May the service branch authorized L3 to pick the Compass Call replacement because of the company’s 15-year experience as systems integrator of the fleet.
