The U.S. Coast Guard has announced plans to field the same electronic health record system that the Defense Department currently adopts, Healthcare IT News reported Tuesday.
A FedBizOpps notice posted Monday says the Defense Health Agency plans to execute a contract modification in order to incorporate the Coast Guard into a potential 10-year, $4.3 billion contract awarded in July 2015 to field the MHS Genesis EHR system.
DoD awarded the contract to a team of Leidos (NYSE: LDOS), Cerner (Nasdaq: CERN) and Accenture (NYSE: ACN) to field the commercial EHR platform.
Rear Adm. Michael Johnston, USCG director of acquisition programs, said the service will integrate its EHR system deployment into the Pentagons platform rollout schedule.
Our assessment is that our requirements are nearly 100 percent the same as DoDs¦ Well pay for the services that we get, and well partner with DoD to clarify how that best works in their strategy, Johnston noted.
The presolicitation notice said USCGs deputy commandant for mission support officially requested on March 22 to field the MHS Genesis system and that the contracts expanded scope would result in a change to the contract ceiling without causing any modification to the performance period.
