The RAND National Defense Research Institute, a federally funded research and development center, has secured a $452.5 million task order from Washington Headquarters Services, or WHS, to support Department of War policy development, program planning and management.
What Will RAND NDRI Provide?
The War Department said Thursday RAND NDRI will conduct research, studies, analytic modeling, simulations and wargaming activities designed to help analysts, government officials, academic institutions and industry representatives address government challenges. The Santa Monica, California-based institute will also provide technical and analytical support to the department’s policy and planning efforts.
What Are the Contract Details?
The task order was awarded under a contract that could reach approximately $985.6 million if all options are exercised. No funding was obligated at the time of award. RAND NDRI will perform work at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia; Santa Monica, California; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, through Aug. 1, 2026.
The award builds on RAND NDRI’s longstanding support for the War Department. In 2021, WHS awarded the institute a potential five-year, $417 million contract to provide policy research and analysis for the department’s acquisition and sustainment office. That work included studies on acquisition and technology, cyber and intelligence, international security, forces and resources, and Navy and Marine Corps issues to inform national security decision-making.
