United Technologies Corp.'s (NYSE: UTX) Pratt & Whitney subsidiary has received a $319.8M contract option from the U.S. Navy to manufacture 32 propulsion systems designed to power the F-35 fighter aircraft.
Pratt & Whitney will provide 20 F135-PW-100 engines to the Navy, six to the U.S. Air Force and another six to Japan under a foreign military sales transaction, the Department of Defense said Monday.
Sixty-percent of work will occur in East Hartford, Conn., and the rest will take place in Indiana and the U.K. The Pentagon expects services under the modification to be complete by December 2022.
The full obligated amount at the time of award will come from the Navy's fiscal 2020 aircraft procurement; USAF's fiscal 2019 aircraft procurement; and FMS funds.
