Redwood City, California-based government budgeting systems provider OpenGov has purchased Berkeley, California-based technology company Peak Democracy for an undisclosed amount in a move to expand its citizen engagement platforms for the government sector.
OpenGov said Friday it will integrate Peak Democracy™s Open Town Hall offering with its Smart Government Cloud platform.
Open Town Hall is a cloud-based online platform designed to increase citizens™ participation and engagement with the government.
OpenGov™s Smart Government Cloud is a cloud-based software-as-a-service offering that works to facilitate budgeting and reporting activities to help government agencies generate data-driven insights and expedite the decision-making process.
Zachary Bookman, OpenGov CEO and co-founder, said the acquisition would help the company equip its OpenGov Budget Builder platform with a participatory budgeting capability.
The transaction came more than a year after OpenGov acquired New York-based Ontodia as part of efforts to broaden its open data management products for the public sector.
OpenGov also raised $80 million in total funds after it completed and secured $30 million in Series C financing round led by Emerson Collective.
