Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) will help the U.S. Space Force build and test a ground-based radar system for object detection and monitoring in deep space under a $341 million contract.
The company said Wednesday it aims to complete the delivery of USSF’s first Deep-Space Advanced Radar Capability to an Indo-Pacific location sometime in 2025.
Follow-on services under the contract will involve DARC development work for two more strategic places in other parts of the globe.
“While current ground-based systems operate at night and can be impacted by weather conditions, DARC will provide an all-weather, 24/7 capability to monitor the highly dynamic and rapidly evolving geosynchronous orbital environment critical to national and global security,” said Pablo Pezzimenti, vice president of integrated national systems at Northrop.
