The U.S. Navy has awarded Northrop Grumman a $140.8 million modification to a contract the company secured in 2018 for the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye program.
Join the 2025 Navy Summit, where top-tier Navy experts will explore innovative solutions, forge strategic partnerships and shape the future of naval operations.

The latest modification adds non-recurring engineering efforts to support the production of five E-2D aircraft tailored to Japan under the Foreign Military Sales program, the Department of Defense said Tuesday. Work is expected to be completed by November 2028, with operations taking place at various U.S. locations.
Previous E-2D Contract Modifications
The award follows a $57.4 million modification Northrop received in January for the integration of second-generation anti-jam tactical ultra-high-frequency radio systems into the Japan E-2D fleet and procurement of a systems integration laboratory in support of aircraft configuration, with completion anticipated by February 2030.
In July 2024, Northrop received a $1.46 billion modification to the base contract for the production of nine Advanced Hawkeye, four for the U.S. Navy and five for Japan.
The 2018 base contract, originally valued at $99.7 million, marked the beginning of a multiyear effort to support Lot 7 full-rate production of the aircraft, designed to help increase warfighters’ battlespace awareness in the information operations area.
In September 2023, Northrop secured a related contract, worth $458.2 million, to refresh the navigation, controls and display systems of the E-2D aircraft. The modernization effort, set to be completed by 2028, includes the retrofit installation of the cockpit technical refresh and theater combat identification.
