Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) has been awarded a potential $253.6M contract to help the Space Force build a payload technology for military personnel to secure satellite communications.
The company and the new service branch will work to build the Protected Tactical SATCOM payload that will be part of an anti-jamming, family-of-systems architecture, the U.S. Air Force said Wednesday.
USAF intends for the architecture to increase the efficiency of beyond line-of-sight communications among the country's warfighters who perform missions around the globe.
The PTC project falls under the Space and Missile Systems Center Development Corps' Pacesetter program, which seeks to demonstrate new approaches and accelerate delivery of new platforms to the military.
According to USAF, the payload development effort aligns with the procurement and other transaction authority provisions under the Fiscal Year National Defense Authorization Act.
