Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) has expanded its industry team that will support the development of the U.S. Air Force’s intercontinental ballistic missile weapon system with the addition of Bechtel and Kratos Defense and Security Solutions (Nasdaq: KTOS).
Kratos will provide missile and payload transporters and Bechtel will offer launch system design, integration and construction as part of Northrop’s Ground Based Strategic Deterrent nationwide team, Northrop said Tuesday.
“We are on a path toward day-one readiness, bolstered by the addition of Bechtel and Kratos, and our team’s commitment to invest now in people and facilities in order to meet the Air Force schedule of fielding GBSD in 2029,” said Greg Manuel, vice president of the GBSD enterprise at Northrop.
Northrop announced the formation of its GBSD team in September and submitted its bid for the Air Force program in December.
An Air Force official earlier said the service branch is on track to award the GBSD contract in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2020.
