Boston-based software firm Neurala has received $14 million in a Series A funding round led by venture capital firm Pelion Venture Partners.
Neurala will use the funds to meet customer demand and add built-in autonomous behavior and intelligence functions to its deep learning neural networks software that works to make cars, cameras and other devices autonomous, the company said Wednesday.
The Neurala Brain platform works to imitate how the human brain learns, analyzes and detects its environment and helps facilitate the decision-making process.
The technology is based on neural network software that Neurala built for NASA for use in planetary exploration missions.
Paul Steinberg, chief technology officer at Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI), said the Neurala Brain is designed to provide deep learning capabilities that will aid efforts to explore the artificial intelligences potential to change clients experiences.
Other investors that joined Pelion Venture Partners in the funding round include Motorola Solutions Venture Capital, 360 Capital Partners, Draper Associates Investments, SK Ventures and Sherpa Capital.
Idinvest Partners also participated in the funding round in collaboration with investment fund Ecomobility Ventures and through its Electranova Capital II Fund.
