Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) received an engineering services contract from the U.S. Navy to serve as a design agent for the service branch’s surface search and fire control radar system. The company said Thursday it will help redesign components, resolve technology problems and develop new features for the 50 AN/SPQ-9B radars installed on Navy ships and land sites.
Under the follow-on contract, Northrop will provide installation, production and modernization assistance to the service branch. AN/SPQ-9B uses an X-band pulse Doppler radar technology designed to help sailors track fast-moving targets in jammed, chaffed and cluttered environments.
