The U.S. Navy is seeking prototype designs of its future large unmanned surface vessel for use in autonomous navigation and afloat strike missions.
Specifically, the service branch asked industry to submit LUSV design concepts that would combine features from government warfare systems and commercial technology platforms to facilitate interoperability with manned surface combatants for anti-surface warfare activities, Naval Sea Systems Command said Friday.
LUSV should work by remote control and function in accordance with international regulations for preventing sea collisions. The Navy will collect industry proposals to help inform costs and specifications ahead of detail design and construction activities that are planned for fiscal 2021.
