Leland Melvin
Leland Melvin, a 24-year NASA veteran, has joined the board of directors at nuclear components manufacturing company BWX Technologies (NYSE: BWXT).
Melvin worked as associate administrator for education from October 2010 through his retirement in 2014 and as a mission specialist on board the space agency’s shuttle Atlantis, BWXT said Tuesday.
The retired NASA astronaut co-chaired the White House’s Federal Coordination in STEM Education Task Force and represented the U.S. as head of the International Space Education Board.
Melvin serves on the board of trustees at University of Richmond, where he earned obtained his bachelor’s degree in chemistry, and is a directors fellow at the MIT Media Lab.
Prior to NASA, he was a football player with the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys.
