NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center has released a draft request for proposals for the instrument suite of a next-generation satellite constellation intended to collect space-based imagery of Earth’s land surface.
The center is soliciting comments on presolicitation documents related to Landsat Next, a joint project between NASA and the U.S. Geological Survey, according to a notice posted Monday on SAM.gov.
NASA is looking to procure three flight instruments, simulators for observatory integration and testing and other related services to support the future Earth observation system.
The agency envisions a 26-band constellation that will capture imagery for researchers to monitor water quality, climate and snow dynamics, soil health and crop production.
Landsat Next will feature new bands with similar spatial and spectral characteristics to the European Space Agency’s Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite bands to support data merging.
The mission is planned for launch in late 2030.
Interested parties can submit input through Feb. 27.
