A McAleese & Associates report says the House Appropriations Committee passed a spending bill that would authorize $690B in fiscal 2020 funds for the Department of Defense, reflecting a 2.3 percent increase from DoD’s current budget.
Jim McAleese, founder and principal at McAleese & Associates and a 2019 Wash100 winner, wrote in the report the FY 2020 appropriations bill would allocate a total of $142B for DoD’s procurement programs.
Those programs include the U.S. Air Force’s F-35 conventional takeoff and landing variant; U.S. Navy’s P-8 and E-2D aircraft; and the U.S. Marine Corps’ V-22 aircraft.
The Pentagons operation and maintenance account would get $257B, while its research, development, test and evaluation efforts would receive $101.5B in FY 2020 funds.
The proposed legislation sets aside $44.9B for the Air Force’s RDT&E programs; $18.4B for the service’s aircraft procurement efforts; $3.1B for missile procurement; $2.4B for space acquisition initiatives; and $2.5B for ammunition procurement.
McAleese also listed some of the fully funded Air Force RDT&E programs in the FY 2020 appropriations bill, including B-21, hypersonics prototyping, advanced engine development and protected tactical service.
