McAleese & Associates: FY 2020 Navy, Marine Corps Budget Request Totals $206B

A report by consulting firm McAleese & Associates says the Navy and the Marine Corps requested a total budget of $206B for fiscal year 2020.

The Navy™s FY 2020 budget request includes $20.4B in research, development, test and evaluation funds for several programs: unmanned surface vessels and unmanned underwater vehicles; directed energy; conventional prompt strike/hypersonics; Next-Generation Jammer electronic warfare; and the MQ-25 aerial refueling drone, Jim McAleese, founder and principal at McAleese & Associates, wrote in the report.

McAleese, a 2019 Wash100 winner, listed several programs that are considered œbig winners in the spending plan of the Navy and Marine Corps: force protection applied research; advanced component development; surface and shallow water mine countermeasures; and ship concept advanced design.

The Navy™s shipbuilding programs would receive $23.8B in FY 2020 budget, while aircraft procurement efforts would get $18.6B.

The Navy requested $4.3B in FY 2020 funds to buy Tomahawk missiles, long range anti-ship missile and other weapons systems; $57.7B in operations and maintenance funds; and $32.2B in military personnel appropriations, according to the report.

The USMC budget request includes $3.1B in funds for Amphibious Combat Vehicle 1.1, Marine Air Defense Integrated System and Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System, among other procurement programs; $9.1B for operations and maintenance; and $14.3B for service members.

McAleese noted both services also requested $1.2B in FY 2020 funds for ammunition procurement efforts.
