Raj Parameswaran, president of the federal information technology business at Maximus, has said that agencies should adopt a holistic approach to address workforce and technology implementation challenges that may arise when modernizing information technology assets.
In a Nextgov guest piece published Friday, Parameswaran wrote that agecy leaders should hire domain-specific professionals, deploy proven technology and promote staff engagement to meet IT modernization goals.
He noted that industry professionals and former agency personnel who gained technical knowledge throughout their careers can offer insight into potential implementation issues. He recommended that agencies avoid risky beta tester technology and explore platforms with a proven track record in government operations.
There are so many exciting technology advancements, especially around digital transformation, but if you take a technology-first approach instead of understanding the outcomes and processes involved, you may not see the benefits it is supposed to deliver, Parameswaran said.
