Matt Hicks was promoted to the roles of president and CEO at Red Hat, where he previously oversaw product strategy and engineering activities as executive vice president of products and technologies.
The IBM (NYSE: IBM) subsidiary said Tuesday Hicks took over from Paul Cormier, a more than two-decade Red Hat veteran who was tapped to serve as chairman of the Raleigh, North Carolina-based software company.
Hicks joined Red Hat in 2006 and has, since then, assumed increasing responsibilities in support of its technology development and delivery efforts. He is now responsible for driving the company as it offers enterprise open source software products to government and commercial markets.
Commenting on Hicks’ appointment, Cormier said, “His experience across different parts of our business has given him depth and breadth of knowledge about how we can best work together to scale and remain the open hybrid cloud leader.”
The Red Hat chairman also shared his goal of advancing the use of the company’s open source, hybrid cloud platform to help drive innovation for its customers.
