Defense Secretary Mark Esper, a 2019 Wash100 winner, has expressed satisfaction with the $738B fiscal 2020 defense budget agreed upon by the White House and Congress as part of a $1.4T spending deal, Defense News reported Thursday.
He told reporters after his confirmation on Tuesday that the agreement would allow the Department of Defense plan operations and manage its funds accordingly.
The Trump administration and congressional negotiators reached a budget compromise Monday to avoid a government shutdown by raising the debt limit and budge caps for the next two fiscal years. Esper also urged the DoD to address staffing and leadership issues.
