Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has been awarded a potential $130.6 million contract to update the target acquisition designation sight and pilot night vision sensors on U.S. Army Apache helicopters.
Lockheed said Thursday it will produce modernized day sensor assembly kits and spares for the Army and the Qatar Emiri Air Force at its facilities in Florida through March 2019.
Matt Hoffman, M-TADS/PNVS director at Lockheed Martin missiles and fire control, said the upgrades are intended to help aircrews gain œaccurate coordination with ground troops.
œWith the Apache expected to be in service through 2045, we™re continuing to invest in sensor upgrades, such as the M-DSA, to ensure aircrews have the capabilities they need to address emerging threats, Hoffman added.
The modernized day sensor will incorporate additional fields of view, extended ranges for the picture-in-picture system, near infrared and color imagery, a new laser pointer marker and a multi-mode laser.
