A business unit of Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) will develop and integrate an Aegis weapon system baseline for Japan’s maritime self defense force under a one-year, $135.8 million contract from the U.S. Navy.
The Defense Departmentsaid Friday that Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems will provide the DDG Aegis J7 baseline under the foreign military sales contract.
Aegis works to simultaneously engage land targets, surface vessels and submarines as well as helps defend the fleet against aircraft and missile threats.
J7 is a variant computer program designed for integration into Japanese destroyer ships.
DoD noted that $65.8 million in FMS funds will be obligated at the time of award and contract work will be performed in various locations across the U.S. and Japan.
