Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has received a $1.59 billion contract to produce and deploy counterfire target acquisition radar systems for the U.S. Army.
Work under the order dependent contract will run through March 29, 2022, and locations and funds will be provided with each order, the Defense Departmentsaid Thursday.
The Army Contracting Command awarded the contract through an online solicitation with one bid received.
AN/TPQ-53 counterfire radars are designed to detect, classify and track enemy mortars, cannon and rockets in 360- or 90-degree modes, according to the Army.
Lockheed will build AN/TPQ-53 systems to replace the service branch’s current AN/TPQ-36 and AN/TPQ-37 Firefinder radar systems.
