Lockheed Martin‘s (NYSE: LMT) rotary and mission systems business has secured a $98.5 million contract modification to update the U.S. Navy‘s AN/SLQ-32 electronic warfare system.
The Defense Departmentsaid Friday the modification covers full-rate production of the Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program‘s Block 2 subsystems.
Block 2 is designed to provide updated electronic support antenna, ES receiver and an open combat system interface to boost the detection and accuracy of AN/SLQ-32 systems.
Work will occur in Alabama, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and U.K. through July 2019.
The Naval Sea Systems Command will obligate the full amount of the modification from the service branch’s fiscal 2017 “other procurement” and fiscal 2015 shipbuilding and conversion funds.
AN/SLQ-32 was introduced in the 1970s and is designed to perform early detection, signal analysis, threat warning and protection from anti-ship missiles.
SEWIP is a development block upgrade program for AN/SLQ-32 and is intended to help mitigate obsolescence.
