Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has secured a potential $191.2 million contract from the U.S. Navy to manufacture inertial navigation systems for Increment 8 of the Trident II submarine-launched fleet ballistic missile system.
The company’s rotary and mission systems business will produce the devices as part of the Trident Shipboard Systems Integration program involving U.S. Ohio-class and U.K. Vanguard-class submarines, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.
The Navy will obligate $40.1 million on the initial award and expects contract work to be complete by Feb. 28, 2028.
The service branch initially awarded Lockheed a $93.4 million undefinitized contract action in March 2016 to design a Trident II inertial navigation subsystem and develop technology refresh programs for the eighth and 13th SSI increments.
