Leonardo DRS will continue to manufacture infrared weapon sighting technology for helmet-mounted vision systems under a $89M follow-on delivery order from the U.S. Army.
The company said Tuesday its electro-optical infrared systems business produces the military branch’s Family of Weapon Sight-Individual as part of an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract.
FWS-I is a clip-on device that works to help soldiers acquire targets even through smoke or fog, DRS noted.
Production of the technology is scheduled to continue over the next four years at a company facility in Melbourne, Fla.
We are proud to provide this state-of-the-art system to help ensure our soldiers are able to overmatch the enemy on current or future battlefields, said Jerry Hathaway, senior vice president and general manager of the Leonardo DRS EOIS business.
