KBR Wins $350M USGS EROS Center Technical Support Services Contract

KBR has won a potential five-year, $350 million contract from the U.S. Geological Survey to provide technical support services for the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science, or EROS, Center.

According to an award notice published Friday on SAM.gov, the performance period of the USGS EROS indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract will kick off on June 2 and run through June 1, 2031.

USGS launched a full and open competition and received eight offers for the IDIQ contract, according to a notice published Friday on the Federal Procurement Data System-Next Generation.

What Is the Scope of the USGS EROS Center Technical Support Services Contract?

The IDIQ contract covers satellite operations of current Landsat missions and the development and operation of ground systems.

Support services include science; data and information; systems operations and maintenance; engineering; satellite data reception and operation; and communications and outreach.

The vendor will provide systems engineering support, software development, computer operations, project management, network engineering, systems administration, satellite data acquisition, scanning of aerial photography, long-term data preservation, data distribution, data management, use of artificial intelligence technologies to improve public services and operations, and scientific applications of satellite remote sensing data.

What Does the USGS EROS Center Do?

The EROS Center advances remote sensing research and science applications that increase an understanding of the planet and help address societal needs, according to a solicitation published in June.

In addition to overseeing Landsat 7, 8 and 9 satellites, the center is also responsible for satellite data reception, processing and distribution; research for remotely sensed data and other forms of geographic information; and collection and distribution of remotely sensed and earth science data, among other functions.
