Johns Hopkins University’s Applied Physics Laboratory has received a potential seven-year, $92 million contract to provide complex systems engineering, research and development support to the U.S. Air Force‘s Nuclear Weapons Center.
The Defense Departmentsaid Monday APL will support AFNWC in the areas of development planning; strategic system capability assessments; strategic and tactical air delivered and ground-based nuclear weapon system capability; and nuclear command, control and communications.
Work will occur in Laurel, Maryland through June 16, 2024.
The service branch will obligate $1,038,030 at the time of award from its operations and maintenance funds for fiscal 2017.
AFNWC is located at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico and oversees all aspects of nuclear materiel management on behalf of the Air Force Materiel Command.
